When I die, I want to be surrounded by my loved ones. I want them to also be supported by others who are compassionately accompanying us during our time together. I want to be in an environment that allows me and my close ones to face and go through the process of my dying honestly and openly. I want to be able to release any resistance to death that I might have built up over the course of my life. I wish for a peaceful atmosphere and for as much ease as possible. I want to have faith in my death but would also like to prepare myself and others for my dying.
How will a Death Doula help you and your family?
A Death Doula focuses on supporting the needs and wishes of a dying person and that person's family. What this looks like in practise is as unique as the person and family concerned.
You may want to hire a Death Doula if you find yourself in a taboo zone, being avoided by others at a time when you need human connection. A Death Doula can help if you see that your dying is too much of a burden for your loved ones, or if you don’t want to die alone, or if the feeling of being clueless and unprepared is too overwhelming. A Death Doula can also be of assistance when you don't want to be entirely overwhelmed by everything else that needs your attention.
